Basket Range Primary School has been a school for many generations since 1885, and has a wealth of history and community engagement behind it.

We are a Department for Education school that offers children from Reception to Year 6 a rich range of learning experiences including gardening, music, language, forest play, time in nature, craft and cooking, as well as access to two curricular. The school offers both the ACARA Australian Curriculum and ACARA Steiner Curriculum and values seasonal rhythms, personalised learning, connection to community and a gentle pace.

Our mission is to provide a holistic education that nurtures the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development of each child, in harmony with the rhythms of nature. We aim to educate all students to be deep critical thinkers with a sense of moral, ethical, social & environmental responsibility.

We value the importance of nurturing the senses through the natural world. There is an emphasis on the use of natural materials, outdoor learning environments, screen-free classrooms & seasonal celebrations.

Some words about our school logo:

Our logo is a yellow tailed black cockatoo feather

This bird is prominent in the basket range area & feeds on the pine trees of the school forest.

These feathers have been found in the school forest and are prized possessions if found. They have been said to represent safe passage and the “power of spirit coming into your life.” They also have an obvious symbolism for connection to nature, care for environment & sustainability. We felt this to be a perfect symbol for the values that our school aims to encompass.
